For Such a Time as This: Living with Intentionality.

For Such a Time as This: Living with Intentionality (Devotion Series).

“And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14, ESV).

The book of Esther is a powerful narrative set during the reign of King Xerxes of Persia. It tells the story of a young Jewish woman named Esther who, through divine providence, becomes queen. When a plot to destroy the Jewish people is uncovered, Esther’s cousin Mordecai challenges her to use her position to intervene. Though God’s name is never mentioned in the book, His providence and purpose are evident throughout. Esther’s rise from an orphaned girl to a queen reminds us that God often works behind the scenes, positioning ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary purposes.

Why “For such a time as this”

Mordecai’s challenging question to Esther forms the bedrock of our theme, highlighting two crucial insights.

  1. God’s providential placement: We are strategically placed in specific times and locations by divine design.
  2.  The Call to Intentional Living: Every moment of our lives can be part of a divine assignment, urging us to live with purpose.

Therefore, in an age of distraction and uncertainty, this verse sermons us to awaken to our purpose and act courageously for the glory of God. And while exploring this theme, topics such as Position for a Purpose; Courage to act having got a support team of her maid servants and the Jews; influence and impact that was as a product of seeking God’s favour; Victory and celebration which highlights the meaning of the Purim festival which is met to acknowledge God’s redemptive power. These strongly enable us as a team to align ourselves with God’s purpose through intentional discipleship in this time of a perverted generation.

What does it mean to live with Intentionality for us today?

Recognising that your life is not random or meaningless, but living purposefully, with awareness of God’s plan. Saying “yes” to God, even when it’s uncomfortable or risky. Esther didn’t seek the throne. But when her people needed her, she embraced her role. Intentional living is about stewardship of time, influence, relationships, and opportunities.

Esther’s story powerfully teaches us that God raises individuals for specific seasons and assignments. She could have chosen silence, but instead she chose courage and intentionality. You may not be a queen, but you are a child of the King; you undoubtedly have a vital role in His Kingdom. Don’t let fear or complacency cause you to miss your divine moment. You are here for such a time as this.

The Gospel message is beautifully foreshadowed in Esther’s actions. She stood in the gap for her people, risking her very life to save them. In this, she points to someone far greater: Jesus Christ. He didn’t just risk His life; He gave it. He didn’t just save a nation; He saved the world for those who believe in Him. Jesus came, in the fullness of time, “for such a time as this” to redeem, restore, and reconcile humanity to God through his death and resurrection.
